Ile du Havre-Aubert at a Glance
The forested Île du Havre-Aubert is located at the bottom of the Îles
de la Madeleine, and is where the Acadians, the first permanent settlers
of the archipelago began to make their new home nearly 300 years ago. Their
influence is evidenced in the architecture of historic buildings and the craftsmanship
put into their care. Residents today are often relatives of these original islanders,
and proudly fly Acadian flags on homes and businesses.
La
Grave Interpretive Centre is a to-scale reproduction of seaside life in
the 1930s, and several boutiques and cafés make it a popular gathering
place as well. Rural life of a century ago is still in practice at La
P'tite Ferme au Galop, and the Museé
de la Mer documents the lifespan of the islands as long as humans have known
it. As the islands were born from the sea, the Aquarium
des Îles educates on the numerous species of marine life their waters
support, and Havre-Aubert
Beach hosts one of the islands' most popular summer challenges, the yearly
Sand-Castle
Competition.
